Take caution...

Some essential oils can cause photosensitivity...especially the citrus oils. This means they can react with UV rays, causing skin irritation at the application site. Wait a mimimum of 6 hours before exposing skin to UV rays after using citrus oils.

Use care with babies and people with sensitive skin. Use an effective carrier oil to protect against irritation. Never apply oils directly to the eyes, ear canal, mucus membranes or genitals. The skin is significantly more sensitive in these areas.

A little goes a long way! The higher quality the oil, the more potent it is and smaller amounts are required.

Be cautious about using essential oils during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. Even oils that are generally safe during this time may be too stimulating for women who are prone to miscarriage.

Tips For Successful recipes!

These are based on personal experience

Essential Oils in bathwater...when using undiluted oil in bath water, agitate the mixture because the oil can pool as a concentrated drop in one spot in the water. you can also use a dispersing gel. Oils will evaporate quickly in hot water.

Never add essential oils to boiling liquid...it will destroy the beneficial qualities you are looking to promote.

Be aware of the melting points of various carrier oils. For instance, Coconut Oil has a melting point of 73 degrees F.

If you are looking to purchase some of the raw ingredients like Shea Butter or Coconut Oil, some of the sites we recommend are Mountain Rose Herbs, Natural Formulations and Bulk Apothecary.

Slowly pour the mixture into approximately 5 2.25oz empty deoderant containers. Allow to cool completely. Recommend keeping the extra in the refrigerator if you keep your house fairly warm but we have found this solid deoderant to stay pretty solid at room temperature. Enjoy!

Body Butter

1 oz cocoa butter
2 oz natural shea butter
1 oz mango butter
.75 oz grape seed or almond oil
1 tsp almond oil
1 tsp aloe vera juice
1/8 cup Fractionated Coconut oil
3 ml essential oils (recommend .5ml Lavender, 1.5ml Frankincense, 1ml Patchouli, .5ml Grapefruit
.25 oz Vitamin E

DIRECTIONS: Add all the butter ingredients to a pan or double boiler on low until all the ingredients have liquefied. Continue to heat on low for another 20 minutes (do not boil). The continued heating will help prevent the butters from becoming grainy once solid. Add additional ingredients EXCEPT essential oils and let set to cool for a few hours (in the fridge works great!). You want the mixture slightly solid but not hard. Add essential oils and whip until roughly double in size. Spoon into jars or tins. NOTE: This recipe turned out the perfect consistency for my liking, but if it is too firm, you can adjust by adding less cocoa butter or more aloe vera juice.
